An attempt is made to give a systematic account of the research, by theoretical and applied social sciences, on practical measures and policies of adjustment of rural workers to nonagricultural occupations. Information relating to adjustment problems in 11 European countries (Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, and Turkey) is presented. Proposals for action, particularly measures and techniques which have been developed to facilitate adjustment, are considered.
